Hydrocacbon khí thu được từ dưới lòng đất dưới đáy biển và đá trầm tích xốp, thường cùng với dầu thô (xem petroleum). Nó là một hỗn hợp chủ yếu là metan (khoảng 85 phần trăm), etan (khoảng 10 phần trăm), và propan (khoảng 3 phần trăm); butan, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, nitơ và oxy tạo nên sự cân bằng. Sử dụng như một nguyên liệu quan trọng (trong sản xuất phân bón, methanol, và các vật liệu hữu cơ và tổng hợp khác) trong ngành công nghiệp hóa chất, và làm nhiên liệu trong ngành công nghiệp khác. Definition - What does Natural gas mean
Hydrocarbon gas obtained from underground and undersea porous sedimentary rocks, often together with crude oil (see petroleum). It is a mixture primarily of methane (about 85 percent), ethane (about 10 percent), and propane (about 3 percent); butane, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen, and oxygen make up the balance. Used as an important feedstock (in the manufacture of fertilizers, methanol, and other organic and synthetic materials) in the chemical industry, and as fuel in other industries.
