What is Microsoft Interactive Training?
Microsoft’s Step-by-Step Interactive Training (shortened to just SBSI) is a deprecated and optional service, or Windows component, for Windows XP that is meant to guide new users to the new features of Windows XP, which is practically a rewrite of the old Windows model from the ground up. This outdated tool was later removed completely from Windows Vista and Windows 7. This is not to be confused with the Interactive Training service that is meant for Microsoft Office (starting from the 2007 edition and up); the Windows XP SBSI is usually turned on by default for new computers or new installations of Windows XP and acts as a “welcome mat” for new users, a virtual guided tour through the features and capabilities of the then-new OS.The SBSI was (and still is) the subject of various security vulnerabilities in Windows XP, and as such have been patched in occasion and increasing frequency to protect against hijacking threats. These holes can be exploited by third parties, such as hackers, to inject malicious code to the operating system and thereby damage the user’s computer and files. To guard against this, experts advise having the latest Windows updates available, or turning SBSI off completely.
